Kiwanian Maxine introduced our guest speaker. Jason Nault. Jason has been an active volunteer with the Scouting Movement for the past five years and was a member for eight years as a youth. He currently volunteers with the Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and this year helped to restart the Scout program at the 4th Grand Falls. Jason is a member of a team of volunteers that has resulted in a massive resurgence in the Movement in Grand Falls-Windsor. The group is one of the largest and fastest growing groups in the province.
Jason provided an overview of the Scouting Movement in Grand Falls-Windsor. It began over 100 years ago with Lord Badden Powell signing in the first troop, making it the oldest in the country. The Scouting Movement is comprised of Beavers ages 5-7; Cub Scouts ages 8-10; Scouts ages 11-14; Ventures Scouts ages 14-17 and Rovers ages 18-25. The Scouts have been involved in the community by doing cleanup projects and cutting trails. They are doing fundraising to expand their outdoors program and hope to acquire 4 seasonal tents and having a heated emergency shelter at a cost of $4000.00 plus equipment for long expeditions. They are also having fundraising events for the Scouts to attend the Jamboree being held in Slyvan Lake AB .in July 2013 @ a cost of $27.900. They have already raised $10,000
Jason was thanked by Kiwanian Al Hawkins and presented with a Certificate of Appreciation.
